Recording a voiceREACH message is very easy and can be done in a few minutes. It can be done either on your computer, in a sound studio, or by calling our recording centre and following the automated prompts.
Recording your message
voiceREACH provides three easy options for recording your message. Depending on the method you choose, you can record and send your message immediately, or record a message file for later use. This article is to help you record a voice broadcast message using your computer.
I would recommend that you use Sound Recorder or some other software application to record your voice messages. It provides more flexibility and higher quality files then doing it over the telephone.
Using Microsoft Sound Recorder
The MS Sound Recorder software should be preloaded on your computer - you can locate it here: Start / Programs / Accessories / Entertainment / Sound Recorder.
What you need
Recording a voice message for broadcasting is very easy. In order to so this, you need two things:
- a computer with the Sound Recorder program installed (comes as part of the Windows operating system); and
- a microphone (similar to what you might use for talking on Skype - the $10 cheapies from Dick Smith work great!).
You should also have your message content on paper first. Preparing your message content in advance will help ensure you send an effective message to your recipients. I'd also advise that you practice speaking it a few times before recording it.
Sound Recorder settings
Set Sound Recorder to one of the following formats before you begin recording :
|
8 kHz |
16 bit |
Mono |
|
11.025 kHz |
16 bit |
Mono |
|
22.05 kHz |
16 bit |
Mono |
I recommend using the first option (8 kHz).
Recording your message
Here's how you record your message - make sure you have your microphone plugged in first!
- click on the file menu, and click New
- to begin recording, click the "Record" button
- to stop recording, click the "Stop" button
- save the message by clicking on the file menu, select Save As and name your recording.
Tips when recording your message
It is important to remember that voiceREACH will automatically insert time before your message - this is when it is determining if the call is being answered by a live person or answering machine, and then delivering the appropriate message. Therefore, you should being speaking the very moment that you hit the "Record" button.
It is very important that you speak clearly and loudly into the microphone, but without recording breathing noises. Test this first before you try to record your entire message and playback your recording to see how clear it is and if there are any unwanted sounds in the message.
Further, you should also keep your voice at a consistent pitch - lowering your voice at the end of statements, or changing your voice tone or volume will reduce the effectiveness of your message.
It is obviously very important that you do these recordings in a quiet room!
Lastly - short and sweet! It is recommended that you keep your messages as short as possible. The shorter and more to the point, the more likely your recipients are to respond well.
