Vietnam Airlines Viral Campaign
OCTOBER 22, 2009

VA Viral Marketing CampaignIn 2009 Vietnam Airlines substantially increased the number of direct flights between Vietnam and Australia.  They approached Digital Dialogue to run a promotion to increase awareness of this to their target audience in Australia, as well as to promote the 1,000 year celebrations of Hanoi city on the 10/10/2010!

Digital Dialogue created a promotion online using a microsite where participants could enter to win the entire business cabin on a direct flight from Sydney or Melbourne to Vietnam.  Each entrant had to completely fill the entire business class cabin with their friends in order to get a valid entry in the draw to win this amazing prize.  That meant filling a total of 21 seats – no easy task!

Each entrant was required to nominate a friend for every of the 21 seats, resulting in the friends receiving an email requesting them to accept their seat on their friends plane.  Should the person not accept the seat, the entrant could return to the microsite and remove that person from their plane and nominate another friend.  The seating plan was laid out much like an online check-in design and entrants were able to drag-and-drop friends to make their perfect seating arrangement.

The campaign was hugely successful, with over 300,000 people participating in some way.  We commenced the campaign with a database of 0 (yes, that’s right, zero) subscribers, and completed it with more than 100,000!  The campaign was promoted online via banner ads, Press Releases as well as a small direct mail component.
